I decided to start with personal training at CrossFit Eden instead of jumping right into the group classes because my lifestyle was sedentary at work and at home. My work required me to work late nights and weekends to meet deadlines and this left very little time for taking care of myself. My free time was spent reading, doing chores, eating, going to the movies…none of these activities get your heart rate up. I learned about CrossFit through a friend and started to see their physique change for the better. I was ready for a change, so I decided to do some research on this new form of exercise. The videos I watched and articles I read just left me feeling overwhelmed and intimidated, but I figured I would still give it a try and I could always quit if I didn’t like it. I decided the best way to get my foot in the door and see if I could really do this was to get a personal trainer.
I began my one-on-one training sessions in September 2015 with Coach Kasey Pulliam. It turned out to be the best decision I could make on my new journey towards a healthier, fitter me! Starting with a personal trainer gave me accountability, helped me build up the confidence to continue to CrossFit, and gave me my own personal cheerleader. I did two 30-minute sessions every week with Kasey. She tailored every workout to fit my needs and abilities while consistently helping me push my limits. During my personal training sessions, I was introduced to CrossFit terminology and movements and was allowed to practice at my own pace. Since I had my coach’s full attention, I was able to get personalized help on problem areas and tips on further improvement and growth.
For anyone in a similar situation as me, I would recommend starting with personal training, hands down. Kasey made CrossFit more attainable for me. Also, having that close interaction with her twice a week helped ease me into the community that is Crossfit Eden. I am now a dedicated member who comes religiously three times per week!
