Over the last few months, I have had quite a few members confide in me that they are going through personal struggles. Some of the struggles have been brought on by misfortune and others have developed gradually, over time. This has weighed heavily on me, as I hate to see any of our family members hurting, and also because I can relate.
We get so caught up in our day-to-day activities and obligations, constantly comparing ourselves to others or trying to live up to societal expectations that we begin to feel helpless and retreat into survival mode: home, work, and back again.
We "get through" days, weeks and sometimes even months running on autopilot, taking care of what has to get done but no more. We can keep up this facade for quite a while without the majority of people around us even noticing.
But this is not our natural state, we as humans are not wired to just survive, but to thrive! There comes a time when we have to break this cycle and reinvigorate our lives and take it to the bar!
For those of you who have experienced the power of the barbell but have gone astray, it is still here waiting to help you overcome whatever troubles you may be going through. Remember that feeling of invincibility? Yes, you can have it back!
To the ones who have never experienced it, my hope is that you will take my word for it and come take your frustrations out on the barbell. Let an intense workout, with other people supporting you, be the spark that gets out of your rut and breathes new life into your days.
So the next time you are feeling powerless, anxious, overwhelmed, angry or sad, don't concede... take it to the bar! I'll see you there.
