When did you start CrossFit?: June 28, 2014
Favorite WOD: Cindy
Least Favorite WOD: Anything with Burpees
Tell us about your sports and fitness background: I played softball from ages 14-40. I was a pitcher in the World Series Class A Slow Pitch in 1999. I have always been active and enjoy playing different kinds of sports.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? My son Mitch had started Crossfit earlier in the year and was constantly trying to talk me into coming and trying it out, and so I finally gave in and scheduled a foundations class. I had never been so nervous in my life; I vomited three times before I left the house, and tried my best to talk myself out of it. My first WOD was a 7 minute AMRAP that included burpees, sit-ups, and wall balls. I barely made it through two rounds. The next day I was incredibly sore, I felt like I needed handicap bars for the commode and ibuprofen was my best friend.
What sort of changes have you seen in you body, health, and fitness since starting CF? The reason I started Crossfit was to get myself in shape so that I could enjoy my grandchildren, I wanted to be a fun Mimi, instead of a grandma who just sits on the porch. I can tell a big difference when playing with them and I get to spend more being active with them. I also stay with my father who has dementia four nights a week and if I hadn't started CrossFit I wouldn't be able to dress him, bathe him, and lift him like he needs me. I have become a stronger person since June 2014 both physically and emotionally.
Any advice for people just getting started? The best advice I could give someone starting CrossFit is, "Don't give up!" It is hard, but it does get better, even when it's 100 degress outside. Just continue to strive to be better than you were yesterday.

Tell us about your sports and fitness background: I played travel soccer for 10 years. I was an all-conference soccer player and wrestler for four years in high school.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I had previously injured my back and was seeing Dr. Dabbs quite regularly and he was the one who talked me into trying it. My first WOD was a 7 minute AMRAP that included burpees, sit-ups, and wall balls. I think I made it through three rounds, and the next day I was the sorest I have ever been in my life. I remember being very nervous my first day of foundations and just not knowing what to expect, but after a few weeks I knew I was hooked! CrossFit is great for me because of its intensity and the natural competition.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? I came into Crossfit in April 2014 weighing 185 pounds and by October 2014 I was already down to 155 pounds. I have gained strength in the workplace and in the gym; my endurance has become a lot better. Starting CrossFit has become a life changing event for me, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about CrossFit. CFE has become a second home to me with all of the new friends that I have made. I have also come to realize that CrossFit is not just all about me, but everyone in the CrossFit family.
Any advice for people just getting started? Keep working hard, and remember anything is possible. Set reasonable goals each month and give 100% effort each class to reach the goal. "Pain is temporary, pride is forever."
