When did you start CrossFit? October 2012
Favorite WOD: Love anything with deadlifts!
Least Favorite WOD: Hate anything with pull-ups.
Tell us about your sports and fitness background: I played sports in high school. After that, I pretty much ran on a treadmill at home. I went to BodyFit for a couple of years and did some workout classes there.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? A friend told me about it opening, so I decided to give it a try. I don’t remember exactly what my first WOD was, but I know it was a 7 minute AMRAP; I thought it would be easy, but WOW was I wrong, I was dying after that workout.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CF? Before CrossFit my cholesterol was 225, but today I can proudly say it is 166. Heart problems run in my family so staying healthy is very important to me and CrossFit has helped me become a healthier person all around. I’m in better shape now than I’ve ever been! I’ve noticed a lot of changes in my body. The most important thing I’ve learned is about NUTRITION. It’s took me awhile to get on board, but doing the Whole Life Challenge recently really made me open my eyes to nutrition. If you eat crap you will perform like crap. After the challenge, I was down 5 lbs and am now at 18% body fat. I also put on muscle.
When I started CrossFit I couldn’t even jump on a 12 inch box, I was scared to death of those boxes. Now I jump on them with no problems. I was terrified to do a handstand pushup, now I can do a few of them with mats. One of my weakest moments was during our first in-house competition, we had to do toes to rings, I couldn’t even do one, I remember that day like it was yesterday. Needless to say, I can do toes to bar now. My proudest accomplishments were when I got my first pull-up, that’s been the most difficult for me, and I still work on them. I also finished 2nd in War of WODs this year in the Master’s division.
Any advice for people just getting started? Don’t be afraid to walk in that door, YOU CAN DO THIS!!! The love, encouragement and support at #CFE is immeasurable!!! The best way to get results is to show up, meaning show up more than once or twice a week. No cherry picking WODs. Hard work, pays off and trust me results will come, I’ve seen it with so many people in our box already. Last, but not least, don’t compare yourself to others, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Only compare yourself to who you were yesterday!!! #djrobin
