Show up; Stop Making Excuses
Come join our CrossFit family! This may not be the most PC blog post ever written but it needs to be said to me just as much as everybody else... STOP MAKING EXCUSES and get in the gym!
We all have a job(s), we all have families, we all have other activities that we are involved in such as church, school, etc. And of course we all have things that come up and throws a wrench into everything, but this does not give us permission to be unhealthy! Consider this... Every single aspect of your life that you could use as an excuse requires a healthy version of you!
As you can see from the pictures above I was unhealthy, overweight and had borderline high blood pressure at the age of 25 years old. I was starting a new career and my goals were (1) to not be on medicine and (2) to not be a fat cheerleading coach. I paid for a YMCA membership for years, but only went when it was convenient for me to do so. It wasn't until I discovered CrossFit and created a HABIT of going to the gym that I made my HEALTH a PRIORITY and started to see a difference in how I looked and felt.
I worked out 5+ hours a week for 2 years, exceeded my weight loss goal, and felt great, but then life threw me a curveball and I started to let the excuses creep in. I own a gym, I know that I should be working out, I know that I should be running and swimming, I know what to eat. But that didn't stop the laundry list of excuses I created to keep myself from working out regularly. I even started seeking out articles to help me justify that it was okay to let my health go for a "little while." CRAZY, I know! A little while turned into almost a year of me reverting back to some of my old habits. During the month of June I worked out TWICE, two hours in 30 days, that's pathetic!
So I have decided to STOP MAKING EXCUSES and ask you to do the same!
We have to make our health a PRIORITY and without MAKING THE TIME for regular exercise we are not healthy, I don't care what miracle pill propaganda you've been fed or what your reflection looks like in the mirror but we have to exercise in order to keep our bodies healthy!
I know what you're thinking, "But..."
Three hours a week of intense exercise equals 2% of your week, that's it...2%! You probably spend more than three hours a week scrolling through Facebook or watching reruns of Friends, that's what I used to do.
Don't the things we use as excuses (family, job, church, etc.) deserve the VERY BEST version of ourselves?
The positive effects from exercise are endless, and what's funny is that when I feel better I actually "find" more time. Instead of spending my free time laying around being a couch potato, I feel energized and am more productive in every aspect of my life!
So tell your family and friends that starting today you are going to make your health a priority! Make the commitment to pack your gym clothes the night before and take them with you to work the next day or set your alarm for 4:30am so you can make it to the 5:00am class. Whatever you have to do, if you make the commitment to be healthy I'm sure your friends and family will support you!
If you have a three day a week membership, come three days a week, if you have an unlimited membership come 4+ days a week, if you aren't part of our gym yet and would like to start the road to a healthy life email firstname.lastname@example.org to set-up your FREE consultation.
I will keep you updated on my new NO EXCUSES life!
