Tell us about your sports and fitness background: When I was eight I played recreation league softball, and we were the champs that year! However, that was truly the high point of my previous athletic experiences. As a kid, I rode my bike everywhere and swam away the summer days. As I got older I worked in retail, which always kept me on my feet. Otherwise, I was pretty sedentary in my free time.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I met the owners of the gym while they were shopping at Tractor Supply. They were in the store constantly buying the rubber mats that now cover the floor. I remember wondering why they were always so happy. At the time, I was fresh out of a difficult personal situation and I was the heaviest I had ever been. I would look in the mirror and not even recognize myself. One day, I saw my son go to the mirror, turn to the side (as I had done countless times) and I heard him say, "I feel fat today." Boy, was that an eye opening experience! I knew that it was my responsibility as a parent to help him develop healthy habits and confidence and that I had to lead him by example. So I called to find out about joining. At the time i had never even heard of CrossFit, all I knew is that I wanted to be happy like the owners were. My first workout was a doozy - Burpee Box jumps... Need I say more? I wanted to throw up after the first few reps, but as I looked around the gym I saw people of all ages and sizes just grinding thru the tough workout. And I especially remember looking over at a lady my mom's age who was cruising along, steadily doing three burpees to my one. In my head, I just kept telling myself if she can do it, you can do it too! I was hooked that first day by the mental toughness it took to keep going even when that little voice in your head says to quit.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CF? Too many to list! Changes to both the inside and outside have been incredible. I lost about 50 lbs, and I enjoy wearing clothing in a smaller size than when I was in my 20's. Mentally, I feel stronger as well. I have learned to love my body as it is - these thick legs I have are made for lifting! I even feel like the workouts benefit me in my career, as lifting heavy things can be a great stress reliever. As a mother, I feel like I am setting a much better example for my son. In my personal life, I've gained so many amazing, positive and supportive friends. Since I am so far away from home all of our members have become more like family and I love them all! Last, but certainly not least, I was lucky enough to be introduced to my fiance, who is also a member at CFE and supports me in all I do.
Any advice for people just getting started? "Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change." If you are not on the path in life that you want to be right now change one small thing at a time until you meet your goals... Then dream up new and bigger goals! And finally, just take a chance and come in for a class. You may be nervous, but at one time we all were walking in that door for the first time, feeling the same butterflies. Our coaches are awesome and truly want to help you reach your goals and our members are inspiring. It just might change your life!

Tell us about your sports and fitness background: I have played soccer since I was three years old, I tried football at eight and then I started CrossFit when I was 11 years old.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? My mom had taken me there with her when she worked out so I was excited when they started offering a class for kids my age.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CF? Before I started CrossFit I was really skinny. I wasn't weak, but I wasn't strong either. After I started I noticed that I was gaining weight, but not too much. Then we noticed that I was eating more, getting stronger, faster and even some abs! But most importantly I was making a lot of new friends.
Any advice for people just getting started? My advice is don't be scared to try it. It looks hard but trust me it is worth doing it!
